Engin introduces $0 VoIP adaptor
VoIP telco Engin has introduced an $0 VoIP adaptor for customers prepared to take a 12 month contract. However, the basic monthly fee is $9.95 a month and does not include any call value, so you’re effectively paying for the VoIP adaptor over the course of the 12 months. The free VoIP adaptor is an Engin-locked Linksys SPA 3102. You can also buy one from a retailer and get $100 cash-back once you’ve been with Engin for three months.
Engin’s $0 VoIP adaptor may not be the best deal out there if you’re looking to get VoIP at home without the $100-or-so upfront hardware cost.
Competing VoIP provider MyNetFone has been offering free or almost-free VoIP adaptors for some time. It is currently offering a Netcomm V100 adaptor for $9.95, with $10 worth of calling credit built-in. Unlike Engin’s deal, there is no contract, though the adaptor can only be used on the MyNetFone network.
Engin is also now offering a ânationalâ plan for $14.95 a month which offers free local and national calls, but stops short of offering the free mobile calls that are offered in GoTalk’s breakthrough Aussie Pack.
Engin says it will soon introduce a naked-DSL offering that allows customers to get rid of line rental, and it will also be introducing the TiVo PVR into Australia early next year.
